Cities highest.

Humans have always learned to survive in such an extreme condition of any kind, ranging from staying in the area is very hot in the Sahara up to the cold regions such as Siberia. Even though unfriendly environment, such as high mountains where oxygen levels are low, humans have survived for thousands of years there. In fact, approximately 140 million people live permanently at altitudes above 2,500 meters or 8,200 feet, in the Himalayas in Asia, the Andes in South America and in the highlands of Ethiopia, Africa. Here we present seven highest city in the world, as reported by Amusing Planet.

Potosi in Bolivia.

Potosi is located at an altitude of 4,090 meters above sea level. Established in 1545 as a mining town, Potosi became one of the largest cities in the United States and the world, with a population exceeding 240,000 people. Potosi is located in the foothills of Cerro de Potosi - a mountain that has a height of 4,824 meters. During 1556-1783, 45,000 tons of pure silver were mined from Cerro Rico in Potosi sent to Spain.

Shigatse in Tibet.

Shigatse is the second largest city in Tibet Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China. With a population of 100,000 people, Shigatse is one of the major cities in Tibet. It is situated at an altitude of 3,840 meters at the confluence of the Yarlung Tsangpo (Brahmaputra) River and Nyang (Nyang Chu or Nyanchue) in western Tibet. Shigatse is located on flat terrain surrounded by high mountains, and urban areas are located just south of the Yarlung Zangbo River. The city is the ancient capital of the province of U-Tsang, and is currently the administrative center of Shigatse Prefecture, Tibet Autonomous Region administrative districts.

Juliaca in Peru.

Juliaca is San Roman capital of Puno Region, in southeast Peru. It is a big city with a population of 225 146 inhabitants (in 2007) and is located at an altitude of 3,825 meters above sea level, in the Collao Plateau. Juliaca is the largest trade center in the region of Puno. It is also a major transit point in the region and has strong ties with cities in southern Peru, including, Puno, Tacna, Cuzco, Ilo, and the Republic of Bolivia.

Oruro in Bolivia.

Founded on 1 November 1606 as a silver mining center in the Urus region, Oruro is now a major city in Bolivia with a population of 235 393 (2010 census), which is located at an altitude of 3,706 meters above sea level. Having exhausted silver mines, Oruro was rebuilt in the late nineteenth century as a center for tin mining. For a few moments, Oruro Salvadora tin mine was the most important source of tin in the world.

Lhasa in Tibet.

Located at the bottom of a small basin surrounded by the Himalaya Mountains, Lhasa has an elevation of about 3,600 meters above sea level. Kyi River (or Kyi Chu), a tributary of the Yarlung Zangbo River, flows through the southern part of this city. Lhasa is the second most populous city on the Tibetan Plateau which has a population of more than 550,000 inhabitants. The city contains many Tibetan Buddhist sites such as the Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple and Norbulingka palaces, many located in Chengguan District.

La Rinconada in Peru.

La Rinconada, Peru is an old gold mining camp in the remote Andes, which has grown to the status of a big city. More than 50,000 people live in this mountain town at an altitude of 5,100 meters above sea level. Although it has an economy that is almost entirely supported by the results of gold mining nearby, City of La Rinconada infrastructure remains poor. The city does not have the pipes and no sanitation system, and often occurs as a result of mercury contamination in the nearby mining practices.

El Alto in Bolivia.

City of El Alto is one of the largest urban centers of the fastest growing in Bolivia. With a population of over 1.1 million inhabitants at an altitude of 4150 meters above sea level, El Alto is also one of the highest cities in the world.
